SHELBY TOWNSHIP: Township hosting fire safety demonstration for seniors Dec. 16

DiLego said there has always been a need for a program like TRIAD to give seniors the information they need to stay safe, and with the population of seniors expanding, its more important than ever. Its vital to our community because of the number of seniors in the community, she said. The safety of our seniors is of primary importance. The days of leaving ones door open and handshake deals are over, Achorn said, and its their duty to help educate the most vulnerable people in town, a group that includes seniors older than 80. Scams target people of all ages, but scammers often target seniors. Plymouth County Sheriffs Department deputies, like outreach coordinator Liisa Budge Johnson, deliver presentations on how to avoid scams and other potential threats. Most seniors dont know the danger that are out there, Johnson said.

Safety for seniors

According to Bassett, the program has been very successful and continues to grow each year. With help from service-based groups such as the Visiting Nurses Association, Old Colony Elder Services and each towns council on aging, TRIAD works to inform seniors of the services available to them. Whatever services seniors may feel they need, Bassett said. They dictate to us. It empowers them to feel independent.
